Simplified Gold Investment: Paytm's Easy Way to Buy Gold

Streamlining the investment process, Paytm introduced a dedicated platform for the most trusted form of investment: gold. This online platform facilitates the easiest way to buy and sell gold. We meticulously crafted this product to reach the masses, offering a simple, step-by-step process for buying and selling gold.

Approach:

Given the limited references on the gold-buying behavior of Indian customers, the initial phase involved iterating through different design directions. The final direction prioritizes delivering the easiest and most trustworthy way to buy gold online. The interface is crafted not just for visual appeal but, more importantly, for seamless functionality that assures customers.

My Role :

  • Understanding the customer behaviour :

To initiate the design process, I delved into all available information about the customers and comprehended their behavior. Considering Paytm's focus on tier-2 and tier-3 cities, the design brief emphasized simplicity and high functionality. Once I gathered insights, I began developing wireframes and IA to collect feedback before investing effort in designing the UI.

  • Interface design :

Once the IA and basic wireframe were on track, I began exploring UI elements. Simplicity was a key pillar, but, simultaneously, the experience needed to be memorable to foster consistent user behavior. We addressed this challenge through visual design, extending it to all UI elements.

  • Testing and implementing :

To launch the MVP of the product, I collaborated closely with PMs and the engineering team. We encountered various challenges while translating interactive elements into the final product, but we collectively addressed them by adopting different approaches or making necessary changes in the design.

Solution:

The final product received positive feedback from existing Paytm users, aiding in the expansion of the product with additional features. We also learned valuable lessons from the MVP, implementing significant changes to the end product before its extended release.

Paytm Gold is among the first platforms for gold investment. The product build is highly focused on creating new behavior in users.
