Moving to a 3D world: Gojek home redesign

We decided to update our brand based on user feedback and business needs. To elevate the Gojek brand, we shifted away from using the logo mark for sub-brands in our communication, reserving its use solely for the product interface. Building on the positive results from integrating 3D icons in the transport revamp, we extended a similar approach to the entire Gojek ecosystem.

Approach:

As a team, we needed to upskill ourselves to execute the project, learning new tools and processes. Through internal workshops and group learning sessions, we collectively gained proficiency in 3D tools like Blender and Cinema4D. Although our initial models and renders were not refined, we used them to build prototypes and conducted tests. Collaborating with product designers and researchers, we aimed to update the brand perception to a more modern one through this exercise.

My Role :

  • Upskilling the team:

As a leader, it's crucial to introduce new design methodologies to the team for upskilling while adapting to evolving technologies and design trends. Having addressed brand-related challenges, our focus has shifted to making the brand more engaging through innovative marketing campaigns and product interactions.

  • Directing and Implementing:

Once we secured sufficient resources, including project buy-in, team skills, and alignment across associated functions, we introduced various ideas to construct 3D icons within the existing brand framework. Testing initial unrefined 3D renders, we collaborated with the product and research teams to gather feedback. Implementing insights from user interviews and feedback sessions, we refined these valuable brand assets into their final versions.

  • Managing stakeholders :

Given the brand-level transformation, which involved changing existing product logos into wordmarks and impacting the Gojek home experience, it became a massive collaborative effort on the stakeholder level. Every department, including marketing, product, design, and business, had different areas of interest. I played a pivotal role in initiating and justifying the project to the main stakeholders, securing buy-in, allowing the team to delve deeper into the design exploration.

Solution:

The final design significantly altered the overall brand perception, especially with the introduced system changes. The 3D logos elevated the visibility of services, enhancing user navigation while providing Gojek a competitive edge through a more modern appeal.

Acquiring 3D modeling skills elevated the team's capabilities to new levels. The project's outcome contributed to raising the brand to new heights.
